Here's more on Virginia duly noted as a "butt kicking librarian":
http://hokkien.uuft.org/librarian.html

Also, back in 2005, Virginia did a two week Annual Training to fill her reserve duty obligation with me at the Naval War College. While she was here, I interviewed her for an article which appeared in the Summer 2005 issue of the Federal Librarian available on the FAFLRT website. (The photo didn't scan very well.) I've had lots of reservists spend their two weeks here and I can honestly say, Virginia is the zaniest! It's easy to see why she is so treasured wherever she goes.

Going back a few more years, another federal librarian also served as ALA President. Carol Nemeyer, Associate Librarian for National Programs at the Library of Congress, was ALA President 1982-1983.
