The Power of Information Task Force in the U.K.  has released a beta of their report to allow for suggestions from the community.  The report discusses “how the United Kingdom could make greater use of all the digital information in government systems”.  

The report continues contribution to helping the government adopt new technologies and reach out to citizens who regularly use the internet.  25 steps were recommended that the government take to change the culture and reinvent public services.   You won’t be surprised to hear that recommendations include enabling public servants to use the tools and participate in social media, establishing mandatory standards on metadata/tagging, developing standard licensing for government use, exposing data in online catalogues, creating standards for online publishing of government information, establishing standards and implementation plans for government website usability, and working with higher education on increasing capacity, skills, and capability for data mashing.

The Sunday, January 25, 2008 meeting was held 8:00-10:00 a.m. in the Crowne Plaza Denver City Center - Museum Room.  Meeting notes were provided by Sally Bosken, FAFLRT Secretary 2008-2010.

According to nextgov, GSA is close to a deal with YouTube for a federal agency channels.  Policy negotiations appear to have resolved the liability issues for Federal government by removing certain clauses from the terms of service.

Sheila Campbell, co-chair of the Federal Web Managers Council in GSA’s Office of Citizens Services, indicates that federal agencies will be free to sign the negotiated agreement and set up their own partner channels on YouTube.  Agencies will have full control over the channels.   Of course the White House has its own channel already to post videos of President Obama’s weekly addresses.

Stay tuned ….. negotiations with Vimeo, Blip.tv, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and LinkedIn are on the horizon.

President and Mrs. Obama visited the Capital City Charter School Tuesday, February 3rd. 

Erin Simons, a recent graduate from the University of Maryland’s iSchool, is the library media specialist at the school.   You can see photos from the visit (and a few of Erin accepting some books from the President for the library’s collection) at www.ccpcs.org.
